The most interesting thing we learned about sustainability in our community is we consume lots of products.

Something we learned about culture from doing this project is most of the people consume the same.

Something unique about consumption and sustainability in our community is we need to try hard to reuse and recycle.

We would like feedback on our project and let us know if you have more ideas. Do you use lots of plastic botles?

Sincerely,

Everyday Consumption by Izan, Victor, Sara and Romaysa

 Hello,

A product that we consume daily is the napkin.

Some materials and natural resources with which it is made are cotton, recycled cotton or linen.

Something that surprised us about our consumption is that producing a single ton of paper napkins requires 17 trees and 24.5 gallons of water, and produces up to 7.5 pounds of greenhouse gases.

Sincerely,

Izan, Victor, Sara, Romaysa.AD_4nXeJVycdAMBSvx75pPwniyJ39-1hpJDMLp-8bJkk7z4nDlUjCyefTrnXmzrjSNhjdKhXhyXHKjfOfhjr8uWCi7AQypV9JfxexegmQTuFakLYzNuK-VRCqYA0ZytTJdvFPYek9kvlWQ9J8sigqg2hZHeWU8OH?key=E-AJ0DWcU1CAR0UYoq_u0hCN

Everyday Consumption by Claudia, Leyre, Artion and Amadou

 Hello,

One product we consume daily is chocolate.

Some materials and natural resources it is made from are  a cocoa bean and water.

Something that surprised us about my consumption is that Cacao causes lot of harm to the environment:

-Deforestation: Cacao cultivation contributes to deforestation, especially in Africa and Latin America, losing biodiversity and destroying ecosystems.

-Use of chemical products: Pesticides and fertilizers can contaminate soil and water, affecting local fauna and flora.

-CO₂ emissions: The production and transport of cocoa generates greenhouse gases, increasing the carbon footprint.

-Water consumption: Cacao cultivation is water intensive, with high costs for local water resources.

-Packaging waste: Plastic packaging and other materials can contribute to waste pollution

Sincerely,

Claudia, Leyre, Artiom, Amadou.

Everyday Consumption by Megan, Nayara, Noa and Dennis

A product that we consume daily is the marker.AD_4nXfViavkYCYhevA6EnzFsO8k2yhlhb-lZzlX5ubEa6TcJjlhasvesUyy3TTghuCfbwSWIn9x4UPYbe3b2Ob7O1jrFQwt1EbsW_BLyla0-fVMEIqTkZSz9Sd3Yvj3l-z0wLRKhfIMfyY4zyfg58mmAPh9SHYV?key=1J1La5n2-kqCC2h_-M9lm3oO

Some materials and natural resources with which it is made are a compressed ink, a plastic or aluminum tube that ends in a point.Plastic and ink can contaminate land and water and cause great damage.

Something that surprised us about our consumption is that it is pollutable.

Sincerely Megan,Nayara,Noa and Dennis.

Everyday Consumption by Aarón, Sherlyn and Avetik

 Dear friends,

One product we consume daily is plastic pens .

Some materials and natural resources are plastic and chemicals. The ink has so many chemicals, and the casing is made from plastic.AD_4nXdlslMW1GZOW7agy_okUL7hWfopK3JYZopD6D3sQ0j_MM2VZZrnPfbk1UJKfc2M-kDGCcubXcr-uD-YwORenmdzcjEZxOz4jakx43e0_tGElm9lI2Ajlmunn0GrMFpAxrqDSJ3JnV_Xupw6BCHaLQzEh17Z?key=n7Hdf6qHhUh6BXbcQhvh10rC

Something that surprised us about our consumption is not good for the environment, because the ink has chemicals, and the plastic comes from very polluting factories.

1 pen consumes so much, the machines consume so much gasoline, consumes 5 liters per hour, the ink does similarly the same, but it consumes TOO MUCH gasoline. 10 liters per hour.

Sincerely,

Aarón, Sherlyn, i Avetik

Everyday Consumption by Nora T, Andrea and Kenza

 Dear peers,

One product we consume daily is WC paper.AD_4nXfJtPuybqMdbkagy7wLPxzVexkgqT0MmTGwmczjLONXUyRQLo5t8AJFB9SaSGe61jW5utlfE92RfQl57GJngniTHRD9X9Hlfi4kjyIW20z0gPjdBQ8rTjKi9ZAoFrIQ5BHviPAeOA?key=U0v_pO7JEE_8OcQ7QRcx1Y_A

Some materials and natural resources it is made from are cellulose pulp, coming from tree wood and eucalyptus, as it is very cheap and resistant. Other materials are also used, such as cotton and hemp.

Something that surprised us about our consumption is It takes more than 1 year to disappear and 27,000 trees are needed to produce the amount of toilet paper used daily in the world.AD_4nXcFTQoPh4OB4TodWO0e_y3zlTvVQpZAr_1mK_UgqsAv52JjOPNILuiXpXWgTtDOopLPW27ye_wOkyNqXmLVEw4VpjhMx6Z22DtOgIRayc1Fjfx-aJNwbpi3EF1vJPE8qilQH1vSQg?key=U0v_pO7JEE_8OcQ7QRcx1Y_A

Everyday Comsuption by Isaac, Thiago, Mohammed and Nora

 Dear friends,

A product that we consume daily are plastic bags.

Some materials and natural resources with which they are made are from a source of polyethylene. This can vary, the most common thing is that it comes from some type of fossil fuel. Natural gas and oil (both derived from fossil fuels) are vital sources and ingredients for the manufacture of plastic bags.AD_4nXfujaHYlZlod1Enk9XwVWAB2KrO61iq55_jsYljEPJWjlh8X6_skJykwsEzj4525W8J1GEHOdeLn3GAnOdjFWpnQEvmJY7fa8nuTIsAzRHT5XrVRAwSEC5Cs6U9SyBzseqhKAdTpBPU3Z3w43BPcfUQnFAC?key=Hmkenq2Kes8fnFv2wdAY6Yky

Something that surprised us about our consumption is that it comes from liquefied petroleum and then solidifies. We cannot imagine that buying and taking a bag pollutes so much. In total we use 200 bags each year and each bag takes 500 years to decompose, and of the 500 years we only use it for 12 minutes.

Sincerely, Isaac, Thiago, Mohammed and Nora

COME AND FLY WITH ME - THEATRE play at our school

Come Fly with Me is about three great women who changed the world. Valentina Tereshkova the first woman in space, Trudie Ederle, the first women to swim the English Channel and Amy Johnson, the first woman to fly solo from London to Australia.

We meet Valentina at school while she looks out of the window and wonders what it would be like to travel into space.

We then meet Trudie on her first failed attempt and learn what we need to do when swimming the Channel.

We follow her successful attempt and students join in asking her questions. We are then swept up in the air with Amy in her plane Jason.

We fly to Australia, through all types of weather and over all kinds of terrain.

Finally we are again with Valentina who is looking down from space and tell us how small and fragile the earth is.

Through the stories of these women we find out what they did, why they inspire us and what they taught us.

All the stories were amazing. We had a great time!!

About GLOBAL SCHOLARS

This is the 9th year that 6th graders in our school are participating in the GLOBAL SCHOLARS 's program.

Each year, Global Scholars classrooms participate in an original, project-based curriculum focused on a single global challenge. Each year’s topic is interdisciplinary and has observable impacts on daily life around the world, such as clean water, environmental sustainability, or the world food supply.

Throughout five units of study, students complete project-based assignments to observe how this challenge plays out in their own cities, then exchange observations with international peers in e-classroom discussion boards. The discussion board posts and replies provide a unique primary source through which students gain a global perspective on worldwide impacts and solutions.

Each curriculum unit requires students to apply different digital tools to research, create, and present original work, providing frequent opportunities for hands-on practice. From video editing to 3D design, students are using technology for a purpose— to actively learn and share ideas with one another.

We are really excited to share with all you our work!!
